The one where they arrive in Kathmandu

Kiley and I touched down in Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan airport close to midnight on April 15, where we navigated the long (and slightly confusing) process to get situated with our tourist visas. After the time consuming process, we finally made our way to the arrivals gate to meet Cathy, Mickey, and Bishnu! Our initial moments in Kathmandu were dark and a bit disorienting , but we settled in at the Metropolitan Kantipur hotel, eager to awaken to the city's beauty in the morning.

We woke up to a cute street dog puttering around the roof next to our window, and were finally able to orient ourselves in the daylight. We spent the day familiarizing ourselves with the city and it’s surroundings, mapped out our week's agenda here in Kathmandu, and carefully selected fabric for our custom-made kurtas. These traditional garments will accompany us as we venture into rural communities and hospitals.

Finally we finished the night by having dinner at a traditional nepalese restaurant, and reviewed our learning plan for tomorrow. We will be heading to MIDSON (The Midwifery Society of Nepal) in the early afternoon, and teaching 13 midwifery students here in Kathmandu elements of physiologic birth.
